Pure Pea Starch Natural Thickener Food Additive
Pea Starch: Product Introduction
Pea starch is a natural starch extracted from peas, mainly composed of amylose and amylopectin. It is refined through a series of processes including soaking, grinding, filtering, sedimentation, and drying, ultimately appearing as a white powder. Pea starch is pure white, with a fine and smooth texture, high transparency, and good thickening, gelling, and stability properties. After gelatinization, it has moderate viscosity and good stability, with freeze-thaw stability superior to some grain starches, and it is not prone to retrogradation. It is rich in protein, dietary fiber, and various vitamins and minerals, possessing high nutritional value and being widely used in the food industry.

Unlike corn/sweet potato starch, it has:
- High gel strength and good toughness;
- High transparency and a clean white color;
- Easy to revert to its original state after cooling; and a chewy texture.
Health Benefits
Nutritional Supplement
Pea starch is rich in protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, and other nutrients, which can supplement the body's nutritional needs and improve immunity.
Hunger Relief
Pea starch is a pure carbohydrate, digested and absorbed quickly, rapidly increasing satiety and relieving hunger.
Blood Sugar Regulation
Pea starch is rich in protein and dietary fiber, providing the body with necessary energy and regulating blood sugar, making it suitable for diabetics. Studies have also shown that pea starch has a lower digestibility than corn starch and rice starch, resulting in a slower rise in glucose levels.
Constipation Relief
Due to its high dietary fiber content (50.93% soluble fiber and 45.14% insoluble fiber), pea starch accelerates gastrointestinal motility, aiding digestion and absorption, and thus relieving constipation, primarily used to alleviate dry stools.
Note: While pea starch is beneficial, excessive consumption may lead to bloating and indigestion. Moderate consumption is recommended.
Application Areas Overview
In the food industry
Pea starch, with its high transparency, is a core ingredient in rice and flour products such as jelly and vermicelli, giving them a unique taste and texture. Pea starch is gluten-free, with a viscosity up to 1.5 times that of corn starch, making it an excellent raw material for gluten-free bread and noodles. Adding it to bread formulas at a ratio of 30% can increase the protein content by 20%. In the beverage industry, it is used as a thickener to enhance the taste of drinks. With a gel strength of 250 Bloom (gelatin standard), pea starch can completely replace animal gelatin in puddings and jellies. It can also be added to sauces and dairy beverages as a thickener and used in food-grade microencapsulation coatings to enhance anti-enzymatic stability, effectively improving food quality, optimizing taste and texture, and extending shelf life.
