    What is reduced coenzyme Q10?

    Naringenin is a naturally occurring dihydroflavonoid compound. As the aglycone of naringin, it appears as white needle-shaped crystals at room temperature (in methanol). Its solubility is characterized by being readily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, and benzene, as well as polar solvents such as dimethylformamide and dimethyl sulfoxide, but being virtually insoluble in water. Its characteristic color reactions include a cherry-red color with magnesium hydrochloride powder, a reddish-purple color with sodium tetrahydroborate, and a negative Molish reaction.

     

    Natural Sources and Structural Characteristics

    This compound is primarily found in plants of the Rutaceae family (such as grapefruit and citrus fruits), the Rosaceae family (cherry blossom buds), and the Anacardiaceae family (cashew fruit shells). As a representative flavonoid, its core structure shares common characteristics, but it is generally limited by poor lipid and water solubility and low bioavailability. Structural modifications (such as alkylation, acylation, sulfonation, glycosidation, and metal complex formation) can significantly improve its solubility and, consequently, its bioavailability.
