    Mechanism of Action

alpha-MSH (melanocyte-stimulating hormone) plays a key role in melanogenesis. The whitening ingredient, undecylenoylphenylalanine, inhibits the binding of α-MSH to melanogenic factors, thereby blocking melanin formation. Research has shown that this ingredient can block α-MSH at a concentration of 0.001%. A 1% concentration effectively inhibits melanin production at multiple levels, resulting in a more pronounced and long-lasting effect. α-MSH binds to a receptor called the melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R) on melanocytes (skin cells that produce melanin), triggering a series of biological processes that ultimately lead to pigment formation. It achieves this effect by inhibiting the activity of α-MSH and β-adrenergic receptors (β-ADRs). β-ADRs also play a role in melanin formation. Stimulation of β-ADRs on melanocytes in the skin leads to increased melanin production. Undecylenoylphenylalanine may act as a "beta blocker," helping to reduce the activity of β-ADRs and, in turn, reduce melanin synthesis. Undecylenoylphenylalanine prevents this binding from occurring, thereby blocking the subsequent melanin production process.

    Undecylenoyl Phenylalanine's Main Benefits

    Whitening

As a melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) receptor antagonist, phenanthemine competitively binds to the melanin-stimulating hormone (MC1-R) receptor on melanocytes, preventing melanocytes from receiving stimulatory signals. This inhibits tyrosinase production and reduces melanin synthesis. Furthermore, it may act as a β-blocker, inhibiting the activity of the β-adrenergic receptor (β-AR), further reducing melanin production.

This inhibitory effect on melanin production can effectively reduce pigmentation such as freckles and melasma, resulting in fairer skin and a more even complexion.

    Antioxidant Effects

phenanthemine has antioxidant properties and can scavenge free radicals. As we all know, environmental factors such as ultraviolet rays and pollution generate a large number of free radicals in the skin. These free radicals attack biomolecules such as lipids, proteins, and DNA within skin cells, leading to skin aging and dullness. Amidocyanate provides hydrogen atoms to bind to free radicals, rendering them inactive and reducing their damage to skin cells.

At the same time, it scavenges free radicals that damage collagen and elastin fibers, effectively delaying skin aging and maintaining skin elasticity and firmness, leaving skin looking healthy and radiant.

    Regulating Skin Condition

Amidocyanate regulates oil secretion. For oily skin, it reduces excess oil production, keeping it fresh; for dry skin, it helps improve the skin's water-oil balance, preventing excessive dryness.

It also promotes microcirculation in the skin, increasing nutrient supply to skin cells and the removal of metabolic waste. This helps maintain normal skin function and promotes better skin health. For example, good microcirculation accelerates the absorption of nutrients in skincare products by skin cells, enhancing their effectiveness.

    Synergistic Effects

Ingredients similar to amidocyanate include niacinamide. They have a synergistic whitening effect. Nicotinamide can whiten by inhibiting the transport of melanosomes from melanocytes to keratinocytes, and cooperate with the effect of acylamine in inhibiting melanin production to enhance the whitening effect.

    Advantages of Undecylenoyl Phenylalanine

    1. It brightens skin by reducing alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (Alpha-MSH), a key factor in melanin pigmentation. Undecylenoyl Phenylalanine's advantage lies in its ability to effectively reduce age spots, or dark spots caused by aging.

    2. When used in combination with other whitening ingredients, it has been shown to significantly enhance whitening efficacy, resulting in brighter skin.

    3. It is more effective than other whitening agents (such as arbutin, kojic acid, tranexamic acid, hydrolyzed conchiolin, and nonapeptide-1) in reducing pigmentation, boasting a broader and more comprehensive range of effects.

    4. It is easy to formulate (very easy to use), has excellent compatibility, and exhibits excellent stability.

    5. It exhibits significant skin biocompatibility (lipid amino acid structure).

    6. It has a 1+1>2 effect. It is suitable for use with other whitening agents because its mechanism of action differs from other whitening agents, resulting in a synergistic effect. Niacinamide, 4-Butylresorcinol, and Phenethylresorcinol are perfect partners. They not only fulfill their own whitening and spot-lightening tasks but also enhance the overall whitening effect of the entire combination.

    Usage Recommendations

Undecenoylphenylalanine, as a key ingredient, is typically added during the cooling phase of a formulation to ensure stability. It is soluble in propylene glycol and other solvents, but has poor solubility in water, making it commonly used in emulsions or anhydrous systems.

    Usage Rate

The recommended usage rate is between 1 and 2%.

pH Stability: Stable in formulations with a pH range of 4.0 to 6.5.

Solubility: Soluble in alcohols and glycols, but poorly soluble in water.

Undecenoylphenylalanine is used in formulations to address hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and uneven skin tone. It offers a milder, well-tolerated alternative to more traditional skin-lightening agents like hydroquinone, making it suitable for sensitive skin.

If exposed to temperatures exceeding recommended levels or incompatible pH conditions, undecylenoylphenylalanine may degrade, resulting in reduced effectiveness in inhibiting melanin production. It may also become unstable in formulations containing high concentrations of acids or bases.
